Not financial advice. Our rankings and reviews are for general information only and are not a recommendation to open an account or to trade. Forex and CFDs are high-risk; consider independent advice and whether you can afford to lose your money.

IG is a global heavyweight offering an enormous range of markets, excellent tools and research, and exceptional regulatory standing.
Our verdict on IG
IG is the UK's longest-running spread betting and CFD provider. It was founded in 1974, is authorised by the FCA, and its parent company, IG Group, is listed on the London Stock Exchange. For UK traders that track record, combined with segregated client money and FSCS cover, is hard to beat.
Costs are competitive rather than rock-bottom. EUR/USD starts from 0.6 pips with no commission, there are no account, platform or inactivity fees, and deposits and withdrawals are free. Overnight funding costs more on spread bets than on CFDs, so check which account suits how long you hold trades.
Where IG really stands out is choice. One login gives you spread betting, CFDs, share dealing, ISAs and a SIPP, and you can trade on IG's own platform, MT4, MT5, ProRealTime, L2 Dealer or TradingView. That breadth can feel busy for a complete beginner, but the education, daily IG TV shows and 24-hour support go a long way to help.

Who IG is for
Good fit
- UK traders who want spread betting and CFDs from a long-established, FCA-authorised firm
- Traders who want a choice of platforms (IG, MT4, MT5, ProRealTime, TradingView) on one account
- People who also want to invest through a Stocks and Shares ISA or SIPP with the same provider
- Beginners who value education, a demo account and support that is open almost 24/7
Look elsewhere if
- Scalpers chasing the very lowest raw spreads plus commission: ECN-style accounts elsewhere can be cheaper
- Traders who hold spread bets for weeks, as the overnight funding admin fee adds up
- Anyone who wants a very simple, stripped-back app with only a handful of markets
