Risk warning: CFDs and leveraged forex are complex instruments and carry a high risk of losing money rapidly. Most retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs. Consider whether you can afford to take that risk.

Saxo is a Danish bank offering premium trading platforms and one of the largest product line-ups available to retail traders.

Our verdict on Saxo

Saxo has been in business since 1992 and serves UK clients through Saxo Capital Markets UK Ltd, which is authorised by the FCA (FRN 551422). It is a multi-asset platform first and a forex broker second: from one account you can trade forex, CFDs, futures and options, and invest in stocks, ETFs, bonds and funds, including through an ISA or SIPP.

Forex pricing is competitive for a full-service broker, with minimum spreads of 0.7 pips on EUR/USD and 0.8 on GBP/USD on the Classic tier, and 185+ currency pairs. Watch the small print: a fixed US$3 commission applies to forex trades under 50,000 units, so Saxo suits larger trades better than micro-lots. Prices improve if you qualify for the Platinum (£200,000+) or VIP (£1 million+) tiers.

Saxo's own platforms are its biggest strength. SaxoTrader is packed with professional tools, and TradingView can be linked for free. Saxo doesn't offer MetaTrader or spread betting, so traders who rely on Expert Advisors or want tax-free spread bets should look elsewhere.
